The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) is a smaller organisation within the greater Asian Football Confederation, and centres on Southeast Asia. ASEAN stands for Association of South East Asian Nations. The AFF was founded in 1984 by the nations of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam joined the AFF in 1996.〔 In 1996, the federation ran the first ASEAN Football Championship known then as the Tiger Cup for sponsorship reasons. East Timor joined in 2004. Australia joined the Asian Football Confederation on 1 January 2006 and Australia was considered an invited affiliate of the AFF and sent youth squads to the ASEAN Youth Tournaments. On 27 August 2013, Australia became a full member of the federation.
